The space was great! We did a full day shoot with 4 models, and the space had everything we needed including a space with good lighting to do hair and makeup. The large white seemless was great and the natural light was perfect for this type of shoot. Stevie was super nice and took really great care of us.

I would absolutely return to this location in a heart-beat if another shoot arose in the Philadelphia area. Joe and the team at Billy Penn was fantastic and more accommodating than many other locations I've used. They were very communicative, helpful, and responsive to any and all requests and needs we had on-hand, and went out of their way to make the experience as pleasant and positive as possible. Moreover, the location itself was clean, gorgeous, provided all power, internet, AC/Heat, and privacy we needed, and is within close distance to a handful of restaurants and stores for food and supply runs. There was an onsite cafe, which was fantastic for quick coffee runs, and onsite community of businesses in the building that came in handy when we were missing a few pieces of equipment for our shoot (one of the businesses was a video rental house). Would absolutely recommend using this location, and look forward to using the location again for future shoots in the Philadelphia area.

  • While Philadelphia is above the national average when it comes to violent crimes, it doesn’t mean you have to look over your shoulder constantly. Just be a bit more careful than usual and you'll be fine!

  • Securing a permit for your production in Philadelphia can take a lot of time, especially if you're not booking your venue through a platform like Giggster.

How to Plan a Production in Philadelphia

You’re finally ready to let your creativity loose and book a venue for your production. From preproduction to permits and regulations, here’s how to get your production underway.

Define the Scope of Your Production – The first step is to define the type of production you’re going for. Is it a commercial production like a promotional video? Or is it more like a podcast or photo shoot? In pre-production, you should have all of these answers and a rough idea of the type of equipment you’ll need.

Choose the Right Location – Choosing the right location is one of the most important steps in planning a production. The right space will elevate your shoot and reduce costs, and with all the variety in Philadelphia, there’s no reason to settle for anything but the best. Browse Giggster’s curated list of 215 locations and book a venue any time of the year!

Check the Equipment Most venues offer some kind of equipment. If you’re planning a podcast, you likely need a soundproof room with professional sound systems; if you’re planning a photo session, professional lighting rigs are necessary. Before deciding on a venue, ensure it offers everything you need, and you’ll save money on rentals.

Permit Laws and Regulations – Permits are usually regulated at a state level, so you’ll need to do your due diligence to ensure you comply with local regulations. If you book your venue through a platform like Giggster, you can skip most of the paperwork and save on fees. If you decide to book a venue on your own, the on-site review process for your event can take a couple of days or even weeks.

How to Save Money on Your Production in Philadelphia

You don't have to spend much money to make a fantastic production in Philadelphia. Here are some key things you can do to keep your budget under control.

What's the best time to book a venue?

In Philadelphia, the best time to book a venue for a production is during the winter months, between December and February. That’s when you’ll find the best deals and smaller crowds. If you’re planning an outdoor shoot, you’re in luck: winters in Philadelphia are relatively mild.

Are you getting the most out of your venue?

If the venue you chose doesn’t include some of the equipment you’ll need for your production, chances are you could do better. Prioritize locations that offer equipment, and you won’t have to spend additional money buying equipment.

Rent the equipment you need.

Instead of buying brand-new equipment for your production, consider renting from local rental businesses, especially if you don’t have another production lined up or if you don’t expect to use that equipment anytime soon.

Can you implement free props?

In Philadelphia, you won’t lack scenic views, from the lush Cira Green Park to the iconic Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Try to implement them in your production, and you can save on post-production expenses.
