ELIXIR is the second-oldest saloon in San Francisco and one of the top-rated whiskey and cocktail bars in America. Built in 1907 to replace the original saloon (which dates to 1858), it features a unique late 19th century hand-carved mahogany bar (that pre-dates the building, Victorian chandeliers, museum-like walls filled with pictures, and whiskey shelves. Thick red velvet curtains allow for light blocking to control your own lighting, or, with many windows facing south and east, you can enjoy great natural light, particularly during morning and early afternoon hours. The space can be rented for private parties, complete with full bar packages, and outside catering is permitted. Outside there are two "parklets" that can be used as well. Essentially, they are outdoor booth seating beside the street; three boothes that seat 6 people each and we can add another "barrel and plank" table for 6 on the sidewalk. This area can be rented separately from the bar for groups up to 30. The bar room itself seats 48, holds 60-70 people standing, and is approximately 1,000 sq ft. There is a 500 sq ft back room suitable for make-up, storage, and out-of-sight operations (but no loitering; only active production or storage is permitted). Film crews have parked large vehicles outside and rented surrounding facilities for meals and other purposes. Paid parking garages are a few blocks away. If you're looking for an authentic Old West saloon, Victorian, or stately atmosphere, this is a fantastic room! Also, it just plays well as a local bar.
